How great would it be to arrive to your hotel, excited about the upcoming weekend events and find these delightful welcome gifts waiting for you!  Personally speaking, we couldn’t think of a better way to thank your guests for traveling near and far to celebrate your special day!   We love it when our brides get creative… both Jessica and Emily’s custom designed favor bags included specialties from the lowcountry.  Both of these brides had family members bundle up their favorite homemade treats, so their guests could enjoy them throughout the wedding weekend!  We have so much fun designing labels, bag tags and weekend itinerary packets that adorn the rustic canvas bags.  Each bride has such a unique design sensibility that the variety of welcome ideas never cease to amaze us!

A Grassroots movement

A Grassroots movement

Studio R is pleased to announce their support of the 10% Shift movement.

It is a very simple idea, yet one that can have a profound effect on our local economy.  The 10% Shift movement encourages individuals to shift 10% of their annual budget from non-local businesses to Local Independents in order to build a strong local economy. According to statistics, if five million households in the Lowcountry participated in this movement, well see for yourself…the statistics are quite impressive!

  • Expanded Job Creation — Create 48,000 new jobs created which would decrease the Lowcountry unemployment rate by 1.5%
  • Economic Growth — Generate over $1 billion of increased economic activity in the Lowcountry
  • Entrepreneurial Ventures — Inspire the formation thousands of new entrepreneurial ventures
  • Environment Protected — Decrease thousands of tons of greenhouse gas emissions
  • Enhanced Communities — Revitalize local Lowcountry communities

After seeing the facts and the impact this movement can have on our local economy, we encourage you to discover more about the 10% Shift movement by visiting their website and pledge your commitment to the revitalization and continued growth of the Lowcountry!

Life revolves around color, or maybe it is defined by color…

Today I discovered Colorstrology by Michele Bernhardt.  By entering your specific birth date through this interactive website, we were able to gain insight and inspiration into the factors that shape our distinct personalities and in turn draw us to a particular color.  So cool!

My personal Colorstrology (October 22) revealed that I was Dusty Aqua (Pantone 12-5506).  Funny, that my entire house should feature this very color…. and the explanation was right on!  See for yourself, what is your Colorstrology say about you?  We would love to hear from you!

Bon Voyage!

On May 29th, Studio R was featured on Style Me Pretty under the travel themed weddings II section!  The original feature was first introduced in the most recent edition of  Charleston Weddings Magazine, (Summer 2009) as a how-to guide to designing your own travel-themed welcome kit.  The design included a wedding weekend itinerary done up to look like an old-school boarding pass, accompanied by an in-flight style snack pack tucked into a mini suitcase, marked with a keepsake luggage tag.  Pampering your guests made easy!

Rachael and I are finally back and settled in Charleston after a successful trip to New York City for the 2009 National Stationery Show.  A few of our photos from the show are featured above.  A special thank you to our current vendors for stopping by to extend a hello and for your continued support of our wedding collections.  This year, we launched Wedding Collection II and were thrilled by the response we received.  We would also like to thank our new vendors!  We look forward to working with all of you to create custom, beautiful invitations and more for your clients.

the_350_project_verticalThis afternoon, we came across the 3/50 Project.

The idea is to commit $50 each month to locally owned businesses, total. Maybe that means rethinking where you currently invest your money, opting to pick up that birthday card or pair of jeans in a locallly owned business instead of the big box you’ve been going to. Or maybe it means eating out once a month because you realize slamming the breaks on all spending stalls economic recovery.
We are big fans of this idea, and thought we would share them with you!
Some of our local favorites that we will continue to shop as part of our commitment to the 3/50 Project are:

Ambrose Farms: located at 842 Main Road, Johns Island our place to go to for the best strawberries, tomatoes, butter beans, okra, sweet corn, peas, squash, zucchini, onions, collards, potatoes, melons, bedding plants…

Cose Belle: located at 6 Beaufain Street, Downtown Charleston, the place to go for a unique selection of home furnishings, clothing and accessories!

Avondale Wine and Cheese: located at 813 Savannah Highway, B.  (843.769.5444) This cute West Ashley shop features a great selection of cheese and wine, along with regular wine tastings hosted by gracious shopkeep Manoli Davani.

Bull Street Gourmet: located at 60 Bull Street, Downtown Charleston.  A quaint spot offering elegant deli sandwiches along with a variety of soups made fresh daily and artisan salads.  They also offer imported and domestic meats and cheeses, produce, boutique wines and a selection of “small brewery” beers.

Perhaps this next issue will arouse your sweet tooth!  Our one-of-a-kind designs for the brides above, come full circle through the creative talents of  Jim Smeal, wedding cake extraordinaire! The end result: a gorgeous presentation that captures all of the details of the bride’s special day!

We are gearing up for the spring wedding seasons and you can expect to see lots of new postings featuring upcoming events. This time of year focuses on all of the special details of a wedding day from ingenious welcome packets, to elegant ceremony programs, appetizing dinner menus and the ever so adorable butler cards. It is these little embellishments that are the icing on the cake!

Last weekend WED kicked of spring wedding season with the “GG” wedding. To no surprise, the girls at WED put on quite a show. The classy affair was quite unique and captured the essence of Ginger and Gregg. Studio R designed a custom geometric pattern for their invitation ensemble and wedding stationary. The geometric theme was repeated for their striking dinner menus featuring a slide out card with their custom GG monogram peaking out of the die cut sleeve. WED requested that we print the custom geometric pattern on vellum paper which they wrapped around votives and vases. The pattern was also featured on a variety of signage for the food stations and the specialty drinks too! Check out the end result below…

In addition to the hustle and bustle of spring weddings, Allison and I are working diligently on the 2009 Studio R Wedding Collection for the National Stationery Show in May.  Yes, it is that time of year again… and I feel like we just did this not so long ago!  We are creating many new designs for the album, and I am thrilled!  Allison offers up a new set of eyes for this years creations and make a huge difference.  I am excited to reveal the designs at the show, but wow, we have so much to do before May.
